۱ FAST AND EXPOUNDED SETUP INSTRUCTIONS

    * BRIEF SETUP LOGIC EXPLANATION *

JNS Software has been trying for years to make it's setup the simplest
and easiest it can be. This is not only limited to the initial setup but
also for when your system configuration changes, as to make modifications
  just as easy.

We use a JNS_NODE.DAT file which holds the critical COM PORT, IRQ and BBS
DROP FILE PATH's. With this setup you only need to enter this data for the
first JNS Software door game you install, and in turn all other JNS Doors
will use this same file. This makes modifications an ease, in case, for
example you need to change a com port address, you merely change it in
one setup and all other JNS doors will use the new modifications.

۱ FAST SETUP INSTRUCTIONS

#1. Run the ??_SETUP.EXE file and fill in all the data using the on-screen
help for reference. Where ?? is the games initials.

NOTE: Support for passing the Node number, an AKA and Configuration
file name via command line are now available.
            (See EXPOUNDED SETUP)

#2. Create BATCH file to execute the games EXE file and your done.

NOTE: Support for COMMAND LINE execution has been added. Executing
the door from a batch file is now optional.
            (See EXPOUNDED SETUP)

۱ EXPOUNDED SETUP INSTRUCTIONS

#1. Run the setup program to create a configuration file. The filename is
??_SETUP.EXE where ?? is the initials of the JNS Software door game
you are configuring. This program will ask the following questions:

Your BBS Name - Just enter the name of your BBS as you
want it displayed. This name MUST match the
name in a registered KEY if you have one.

System Operators Name - Enter your real or alias name. This name
MUST match the name in a registered KEY if
                               you have one.

Running Multi-Node - Enter a N for no or an Y for yes if your
using the game on a Multi-Node system. With
versions of the software dated after 7-22-94
JNS Software doors DO NOT require registration
for Multi-Node use. This is now a freely
                               given feature.

Keep Activity Log - Enter a Y for yes or an N for no for to keep
a running log file of the game. This file
merely writes the users name, time entered,
exit time, display type and type of exit the
                               user made.

Type Of BBS Software - Either select the number listed in the bottom
help box or type in the type of BBS software.
This is used for displaying the 'Returning To'
message at the end of the game and for setting
defaults while in the setup program.

Type Of BBS Drop File - Enter the type of BBS drop file your BBS Soft-
ware supports. For example this would be for
the DOOR.SYS file. No drive or path is entered
at this option. BBS Software using DORINFOx.DEF
type drop files which place an 1, 2, 3 etc where
the x is, merely name the file DORINFOX.DEF and
the x will be replaced with the node number.

ASCII Path & Bulletin - This is the complete drive, path and filename
for an ASCII scores bulletin to be displayed
from your BBS. This and the ANSI bulletin below
are optional and may be left blank if bulletins
are not desired. NOTE: Bulletins are available
                               only in the registered version.

ANSI Path & Bulletin - This is the complete drive, path and filename
for an ANSI scores bulletin. See ASCII above
                               for more detail.

50 Character Comment - This line in the registered version is meant
as a place for the Sysop to display a Donated
By line or any other info they wish. In the
Shareware version it has a built-in default
                               shareware line.

Node Environment Var - This line is for the name of your Environment
Variable used to distinguish nodes on a Multi-
Node System. However this is NOT REQUIRED and
may be supplied other ways. If your not sure
                               read 'Environmental Variables Explained' later
                               in this setup file.

Node Configuration - When you scroll to this line the line will
display "Press ENTER To Edit Node Configuration"
hi-lighted White on Blue on color monitors.
Pressing ENTER will display the Node
                               configuration screen.

This path should be to a common directory if
you plan on using more than one JNS Software
door. Example, if you have a doors directory
this would be an ideal path. All JNS Software
doors can sccess the JNS_NODE.DAT file for the
needed COM PORT, IRQ and DROP FILE Paths.

      * Editing Node Configuration (JNS_NODE.DAT) Contents *

The first entry in the Node Configuration is JNS_NODE.DAT path. The file
JNS_NODE.DAT is created by the setup program and is not part of any BBS
software package. When selecting a path for the JNS_NODE.DAT file it is
best to select a path of a neutral nature for this file can be used by
all JNS Software doors you are running. Meaning you will not have to
re-enter Com Port Addresses, IRQ's and Drop File Paths for each door,
for this is the data this file contains.

After entering the JNS_NODE.DAT file path, pressing ENTER will create
the file JNS_NODE.DAT in the supplied path and move the cursor to the
next position for you to enter each node configuration.

To the left you will see 001, 002, 003 etc under the heading NODE. These
represent NODE NUMBERS not com ports. Other headings such as PORT, IRQ,
and BBS DROP FILE PATH follow from left to right. On a color monitor you
will see a red bar highlighting all these options for node 001.

Pressing ENTER will highlight the port address. After highlighting the
port address enter in the correct HEX BASE ADDRESS for your com port
used by node #1. A default list is also displayed in the help box for
      convienence.

NOTE: When using the /FOSSIL switch simply enter the port number
and not the base address. The IRQ will be ignored.

Pressing ENTER again will highlight the IRQ number asking for the
correct IRQ number for node #1. Again defaults are displayed in the help
      box for convienence.

NOTE: IRQ is ignored when using the /FOSSIL switch.

Pressing enter again will highlight the BBS DROP FILE PATH for you to
enter the Drive and Path to where your BBS Software will create the
DOOR.SYS or other BBS Drop File depending on your BBS Drop File entry
explained earlier. This is DRIVE and PATH ONLY, do not include the
      drop file name.

Use your arrow keys to move down to other nodes repeating each step
      for each node.

LOCAL NODE 0 - Some BBS software such as Wildcat 4.x supports a local
node zero. You can press ALT/L to highlight this node field to enter in
the Drive and Path for this drop file.

NOTE: Those using node zero MUST follow all guidelines for Multi-Node
setup even if your using single node BBS software.

Pressing ESCape will exit the Node Configuration screen and return to
the normal setup. All other setup options are simple game defaults and
are adequately described in the setup program itself.

The door is now ready for execution!!!

#2. Now you need to setup execution of the door from your BBS software.
Some BBS's use batch files and other's prefer command line techniques.
All the door needs is for the BBS to execute the door. JNS Software
doors dated after 7-22-94 now have the ability to locate their position
on the drive and thus locate their needed file. This in turn allows for
either BATCH or COMMAND LINE driven execution.

BATCH METHOD - When using the batch method the batch file only needs
to execute the door. Below is two examples of how a
                     batch file could be written:

                      #1: @ECHO OFF
                           CD\DOORS\DOORDIR
                           DOORGAME.EXE

                      #2: @ECHO OFF
                           C:\DOORS\DOORDIR\DOORGAME.EXE

DOORDIR would be and directory name where you setup the
door and DOORNAME.EXE would be the name of the games EXE
                   file your wanting to execute.

COMMAND LINE - Some BBS Software does not require a batch file when
executing doors but are normally forced to use one. With
the COMMAND LINE option JNS games no longer need one.
The BBS program can execute the game directly, just by
pointing to where the door is located. A typical command
                     line could be:

                     C:\DOORS\DOORDIR\DOORNAME.EXE

Since setups vary for different BBS Software you will need
to consult your BBS manual for more information on setup.
